Denver Police Are Drag Racing? – Take It To The Track!

 



Denver Police made three separate arrests and impounded a suspect’s vehicle last weekend after receiving several complaints of drag racers in a fast food parking lot and the surrounding area,according to a Facebook post from the Denver Police Department.

That’s why, if you have a need for speed, the department wants to remind you to drag race legally: At Bandimere Speedway.
Every Wednesday, racers can pay $30 to go as fast as they want at the drag racing venue, located at 3051 South Rooney Rd.
All you need is a valid driver’s license and a vehicle that is safe for racing.
On Sept. 10, you can even race police, which is pretty cool:

Google Pigeon Update – A Collection of Expert Opinions



Each year Google’s algorithms are changed between 500-600 times. Most of these changes are minor. Occasionally Google will roll out a major change, such as; “Panda” and “Penguin”. 



For digital marketers knowing when these change occored helps to explain changes in ranking and website traffic. Resulting in improved search engine optimization.

Googles latest update has been called “Pigeon” due to of a lack of an official name from Google. The named was dubbed by Search Engine Land on Jul 31st. The name was decided because the update is a local search update and pigeons tend to fly back home. 



According to Google the local search algorithm will work deeper with sites web search capabilities. Local sites are already experiencing improved visibility in Google Search Engine results:



“It looks like Yelp and other local directory-style sites are benefiting with higher visibility after the Pigeon update, at least in some verticals. And that seems logical since, as Google said, this update ties local results more closely to standard web ranking signals. That should benefit big directory sites like Yelp and TripAdvisor — sites that have stronger SEO signals than small, individual restaurants and hotels are likely to have.”

After reading about the potentially spammy results being brought in by the newest Google local algorithm update, I immediately began wondering the affect of it on several of my clients.

First and foremost, a national client of mine has hundreds of locations that conduct business independently and need organic traffic to produce valuable business leads.  I began digging into the data to spot any trends that already may be happening or developing and take action on it.
In reviewing the local rankings pack, I did not find spammy results creep into listings; although, I have seen this in some searches – such as “Casino” and “Interior Design” – but not in this client’s space.
My three primary observations:
  1. Locations not appearing in local results: There were a few locations that are not appearing in the local pack of results, though at some previous point did appear there. The average drop in traffic for a location that is no longer in the local pack is 16% less traffic month over month (and this is in a good season where overall organic traffic is increasing).
  2. Locations appearing in local results, less traffic: Of the 50 locations I reviewed, seven are receiving less organic traffic month over month, though still rank in the Local results and have the same organic rankings. Five of the seven locations rank second in a pack of seven local results and for each of these, there are paid ads with star ratings that appear above the local pack.
  3. Locations getting more traffic: Ten of the 50 locations I reviewed are receiving more organic traffic, on average 24% more organic traffic than the same week of the previous month.  Each location ranks in the local pack and most rank No. 1 or No. 2 in the local pack. Their organic rankings have also maintained steady positions month over month, so that factor can be eliminated.
Also, while there were still paid ads, most listings had paid ads that didn’t have star ratings to detract from the organic results. Noting that this is a good season for the client where organic traffic is improving in general, I’m not ascribing all the lift to the local pack rankings, though the lift in traffic for these locations is greater than the month over month lift in organic traffic overall.
So it appears there has been some favorable shifts caused by Pigeon driving more organic traffic.
From what I have witnessed, some local ranking shift has occurred and is driving more organic traffic to several locations. Being out of the local pack correlates with a loss of organic traffic for a few locations. A loss of organic traffic is also occurring where listings are competing against paid ads that have star ratings.”

“To a large degree the jury is still out on the what, whys and outcomes of the recent Local algo update. Things have been changing since the roll out Thursday evening and are just now stabilizing.

Things we do know: there seem to be fewer seven-pack results than before although the drop is not as big as first reported as Google seems to have changed the impact of some local query modifiers. It was originally reported as a sixty percent drop in MozCast, and by their metric it was. However many of their search queries no longer seem to function the same way.
 
Things that seem to be “more so” since the change include:
  • Localization of geo search results appear to have increased based on user’s location.
  • Brands appear to have benefited with additional listings in the pack results and more three-packs.
The update does appear to have reduced duplication between the organic and local results. After the October 2013 update that ended blended results, a number of sites were seeing both organic and local pack results. Those seem to have been reduced to one or the other.
The directories, at least anecdotally, appear to have benefited from the change.
On many searches the radius of the “view port” of the Map has changed. This obviously leads to an effective ranking shake up as the businesses visible within the view have changed. On some searches we are seeing cross geo border expansion of the port and on others a reduction in the radius, totally excluding the locations in the burbs.
Whether this is a cause or effect, we simply can’t yet tell but it does lead to turmoil in the rankings.
One could group this update with a number of other recent Google updates that have reduced visual “distractions” from the main search results; loss of video snippets, the loss of author photos, reduction in the number of review stars shown, etc. etc.
The impact is still unclear; we will have to wait for analytics data to accumulate to assess the net of the change both specifically and more broadly.”
Since the release, savvy search marketers noticed fluctuations and changes in the quality of the search results since – some may call it Pigeon version 1.1 has been released.
One example was the embarrassing NY hotel listing showing Expedia, which was fixed sometime last Friday.

When asked if Google had made a small update to their local search algorithm, Google would not confirm or deny the change. Google did say that they “don’t have a specific update to announce here.” Google added “we probably won’t detail all the changes to local search algorithms as we go.”
I doubt we will hear from Google about new local search algorithm updates in the future based on this last statement.

American “Yank Tanks” Invade England – Video Blog


“The American Automobile Club International is one of many Yank Tank enthusiast organizations in England. I was introduced to this outfit by my cousin Nigel. He’s a born and bred Brit, and along with several of his local pals, are committed to cars that were Born in the USA. The AAC-I was having a big gig at a large regional park a few hours out of London, and I went along (in his ’98 Seville STS) to see how the folks from over there enjoy the cars from over here. At first glance, it wasn’t so different from your average summer weekend mid-western show-n-shine: 500 or so cars, folks camping, lots of walking and talking with a beer in one’s hand, booths, Elvis on the PA. Yet of course the accents were all different. And a large number many of the rides were right hand drivers.”

Among the racecars present last spring were some hallmarks of Americana, including a ’71 Chevrolet Camaro called the Bootlegger and a ’57 Bel Air with “Honky Tonkin’ ” lettered on its doors. A Show ’n’ Shine event featured dozens more Detroit products, restored to original condition and parked amid tents and campers on the grassy grounds of a former Royal Air Force base in Warwickshire.

Even in this setting, which emphatically favored speed over style, Norman Dawood’s 1949 Cadillac Series 62 Club Coupe drew a crowd of admirers.

“I have other classic cars,” said Mr. Dawood, who owns such quintessentially British automobiles as a 1966 Aston Martin DB6 and a 1963 Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud III. “But no other car gets anything like the looks that this one gets.”

When Mr. Dawood, a Londoner who runs a translating and subtitling business, saw the black fastback on eBay, listed by a seller in New Jersey, he bought it without hesitation. With characteristic understatement, Mr. Dawood admitted that the car was “a bit of an impulse purchase.”

Like many fans of the big American cars that British enthusiasts call Yank Tanks, Mr. Dawood was particularly drawn to Cadillacs from 1949, which was the second model year to feature the auto industry’s pioneering foray into tailfins. Discreet compared with the towering appendages that arrived a decade later, the fins had been inspired by a clandestine look at the Lockheed P-38 Lightning, a fighter plane with twin tails, given to General Motors’ designers working on the ’48 models.

It was the ’49s, however, that were first to be fitted with a new 331-cubic-inch overhead-valve V-8, which became a standard-bearer for G.M. The engine’s considerable power can still be felt on the highway, where Mr. Dawood’s car easily keeps up with the flow of modern traffic.

Mr. Dawood’s Club Coupe, also known as a Sedanette, lacks power steering but has several options, including a Hydra-Matic transmission — which added $174 to the 1949 sticker price of $2,966 — as well as power windows and seats. Befitting a Cadillac, it is fitted with the modern conveniences of its day, including a cigar lighter, multiple ashtrays and enough headroom for a driver to wear his fedora.

It is impractical to keep a behemoth ’49 Cadillac in London, where compact cars ply narrow roads, so Mr. Dawood stores it here, about 100 miles to the northwest. That it was a sunny day, so uncharacteristic of a British spring, when he drove it to the Yanks Weekend, was fortunate, as the driver’s window was stuck open, its power lift mechanism having given out.

The window malfunction is emblematic of a series of small problems, some potentially incapacitating, that plague Mr. Dawood’s Cadillac, and indeed many of the American classics increasingly bought on the Internet by British collectors.

“The American car scene in the U.K. is just growing and growing because of the Internet,” said John Pryor, president of the National Association of Street Clubs, a co-sponsor of Yanks Weekend.

“More people are buying classic American cars now because they can fix them more easily, and we’re now seeing dedicated shops opening up here,” said Mr. Pryor, who recently traded in his 1959 Vauxhall Victor for a ’56 Chevy.

While the Cadillac was en route from the United States, Mr. Dawood found a copy of a British magazine, Classic American.

“I couldn’t believe my eyes,” he said. “On the cover was a car identical to the one I’d just bought, belonging to some Scottish earl. The article was about a guy who specialized in restoring American cars, and I thought, ‘This is brilliant. How lucky I am to find someone who already knows all about this exact one?’ ”

Grilled Salmon on Cedar Planks in 5 Simple Steps

Too many people pack up their grills for the winter after Labor Day. Unless it’s snowing you should grill well into fall and early winter. Perhaps you’ve gotten sick of burgers, steaks, and hot dogs. Let’s try something a little more challenging; I hope you enjoy my “Cedar Planked Salmon”.

Ingredients:
4-10 oz Salmon filetsnowy grill, grilling in the snow, webber grill, josh martin blog
2 cedar planks

Rub Ingredients (optional):
1 tablespoon sea salt
1 tablespoon brown sugar
1 garlic powder
1 teaspoon orange peel
1 teaspoon lime flavor,
1 teaspoon chili powder

Directions:

1) Soak your cedar planks in water for at least on hour before cooking. (You can use your own cedar planks,but I recommend using food safe cedar such as, fire and flavor)

2) Mix all or the rub ingredient together in a small bowl. Generously pour the spice mixture in a line down the center of the filet. Rub the mixture in to the filet thoroughly.

3) Heat your grill to 350°F. Add the soaked planks to grill. Close the cover and heat for at least 3 minutes. (don’t heat them longer than 5 minutes or it will prematurely char)

4) Flip the cedar planks and add your salmon to the heated side of the plank. Next close the lid for 12-15 minutes.

Note: you can also grill asparagus, zucchini, eggplant, etc. on your cedar planks

5) Serve and enjoy!

6 Overlooked New Features of iOS 7

1. Limit Ad Tracking
A lot of the best overlooked features of iOS 7 are hidden in the settings, and the ability to limit ad tracking is one of them. This setting—found in Settings > Privacy > Advertising—lets you limit ad tracking and reset your device’s “Advertising Identifier.” The Advertising Identifier is a “non-permanent, non-personal, device identifier, that apps will use to give you more control over advertisers’ ability to use tracking methods,” according to Apple’s included information. “[I]f you choose to limit ad tracking, apps are not permitted to use the Advertising Identifier to serve you targeted ads.” There’s a little disclaimer that advertisers are not yet required to use the Advertising Identifier (implying that they use another identifier at the moment), but that they will be soon. This makes it pretty clear that advertisers can essentially track some of your activity on your iOS device and use that information to advertise products and services that are specific to you—unless you choose to limit Ad Tracking with this new feature.

2. Do Not Track in Safari
Another privacy and security feature new to iOS 7 is the Do Not Track option for mobile Safari. It appears to be an updated and better version of iOS 6’s Private Browsing. (The desktop version of Safari has Do Not Track for a while.) You can find it in iOS 7 by going to Settings > Safari > and looking under Privacy & Security. It essentially prevents websites, advertisers, and other services from tracking your online behavior.

3. Blocking Numbers for Phone, Messages, FaceTime
You can now block numbers for phone calls, text messages and iMessages, as well as FaceTime calls in one fell swoop. Go to Settings and pick either Messages or FaceTime. Then select Blocked. You’re able to add Contacts who should be blocked from all the apps and services just by adding them in either the Messages or FaceTime area of the Settings.

I’ve really gotten into some of the accessibility features in iOS recently, and iOS 7 has even more. There’s a new button for Subtitles and Captioning (Settings > General > Accessibility, and then look under Hearing) that, when enabled, will automatically opt you into using closed captioning and subtitles when they’re available. It’s a feature that’s hard to test thoroughly until the public release of iOS 7, unfortunately, but I love its promise. It even has a setting that lets you change the style of the type (which crashed repeatedly in iOS 7 beta 6; again, we’ll have to wait until the final release of iOS 7 to know whether the feature is truly reliable). It’s an enticing option for the hard of hearing, as well as speakers of other languages and anyone who has an easier time understanding spoken dialogue when text is provided, too.

5. Apps Popular Near Me
Finding apps that are popular near your current location seems like a gem of a feature for frequent travelers. Let’s say you arrive in San Francisco and aren’t sure what are the best apps for public transit maps or hiring taxis. The “popular near me” recommendations in the App Store should be able to pull up the most tried and trusted apps for locals. Of course, we’ll have to see how it works in practice, but the traveler in me loves this idea.

6. Preset Maps for Walking or Driving Directions
The Maps app has a setting that lets you chance the default preferred directions from driving to walking, which is great for people who tend to go places by foot. (Allow me to add, however, that I’m still not a fan of Apple’s Map app, which on a recent trip to Atlanta suggested my destination was half a mile closer than it actually was. Gah.)

He has the overall responsibility for Industrial Design and also provides leadership and direction for Human Interface (HI) software teams across the company. The work and principles of Dieter Rams, the chief designer at Braun from 1961 until 1995, influenced Ive’s work. In Gary Hustwit‘s documentary film Objectified (2009), Rams says that Apple is one of only a handful of companies existing today that design products according to Rams’ ten principles of “good design.”

Ive has his own laboratory with his appointed design team. They work to music provided by DJ John Digweed, a close friend of Ive’s.The majority of Apple employees are not allowed in the laboratory. According to the Steve Jobs biography, Ive’s design studio has foam cutting and printing machines, and the windows are tinted. Jobs told Isaacson: “He has more operational power than anyone else at Apple except me.” On 29 October 2012, Apple announced that “Jony Ive will provide leadership and direction for Human Interface (HI) across the company in addition to his role as the leader of Industrial Design.” With the WWDC13 announcing of the iOS7 with Jonathan Ive as a principal, the Apple Press Info also updated his title to Senior Vice President of Design.

Steve Jobs said of Ive, “If I have a spiritual partner at Apple, it’s Jony.”

More About iOS 7s Release Date

It now looks like Apple will never release iOS 7 beta 7. Instead, the next version sent to developers is likely to be the gold master (GM), or final version.

ios7-release-dateInvitations to Apple’s Sept. 10 iPhone event are likely to arrive tomorrow, Sept. 3. The invitations could be sent around the same time that Apple releases iOS 7 GM to developers, according to our anonymous sources.

It is still possible, however, that Apple holds off on releasing the final version of iOS 7 until after the Sept. 10 event. In either case, the public would finally be able to download iOS 7 on, or around, Sept. 20 — at least on the iPhone.

At this point, the biggest unknown is whether Apple releases iOS 7 for the iPad this month, or waits until new devices are launched in October. Right now, a delay is possible, but not confirmed.

First announced at WWDC in June, iOS 7 is a radical departure from past versions. In addition to its flatter design, iOS 7 includes new features such as Control Center, AirDrop, and iTunes Radio.

Apple released iOS 7 beta 6 on Thursday, Aug. 15.

Echosmith and Pacific Dub perform Acoustically in the Kia Soul Lounge

 

About Echosmith

EchosmithEchosmith is an American indie-pop band formed in February 2009 in Southern California. The band is composed of four siblings ranging from 14 to 20 years old: Graham, Sydney, Noah, and Jamie Sierota. Formerly known as Ready, Set, Go!, the band officially changed its name to Echosmith after being signed by Warner Bros. Records in May 2012. Their first single, “Tonight We’re Making History,” was released June 5, 2012 and was featured in a NBC promo for the 2012 Summer Olympics. Echosmith unveiled their new single and official music video “Come Together” in early June 2013. The band is currently recording their debut album.

The Sierota siblings were raised in Los Angeles. The three brothers and one sister grew up in a musical household playing multiple instruments throughout their childhood. The band says that a range of rock artists including Coldplay, The Smiths, U2, Joy Division, and Fleetwood Mac influenced them while growing up and encouraged them to make music together. Echosmith’s youngest member, Graham, is now 14 years old and plays drums. The only female member of the group, Sydney, is 16 years old and is the lead vocalist for the band, often contributing on guitar. The second oldest member, Noah, is 17 years old, singing and playing bass for the band. The oldest member is Jamie at 20 years old, who sings and plays guitar.
